If you notice a significant increase in the traffic to your website and if after you look at the visitor stats it turns out that it comes from places across the world or from other servers, your site is most likely being attacked by an automatic bot. These programs go through random websites attempting to log in to their admin area using a brute-force attack or to leave spam comments beneath any sort of article where this kind of an option is offered. The fact is that, that's something relatively frequent nowadays, but if you know the IP addresses from which the attacks come, you could block them, so the bots shall not be able to access your site in any way. Of course, you are able to block IPs even if you allow only people from specific countries to access your site.
IP Blocking in Cloud Website Hosting
If you have a cloud website hosting account with us and you would like to block one or a few IP addresses, you could use the IP Blocking tool, that's incorporated into our in-house built Hepsia CP. By using a very simple interface, you can restrict any IP from accessing your content even if you have never had a web hosting account before. All it takes to do this is to log in to your Control Panel, to navigate to the IP Blocking section, to select a specific domain or subdomain from a drop-down menu and then to type in the IP address. You'll not have to do anything complicated if you wish to block a whole network - you will simply have to omit the last octet, so entering 1.1.1. with a blank space after the last dot shall block the entire range from 1.1.1.1 to 1.1.1.255. All blocked IPs shall be listed inside the very same section, so you'll be able to remove any of them from the blacklist with just a mouse click.
IP Blocking in Semi-dedicated Servers
Our semi-dedicated server accounts feature a quite simple-to-use IP blocking tool, which will enable you to restrict individual IPs or even whole networks from accessing your websites with no more thana few clicks and you won't have any troubles to achieve that even if that's your first hosting account. When you go to the IP Blocking section of the Hepsia CP, you will just have to select the domain or subdomain you want from a drop-down list, then input the IP address in a box that you will see there and you will be good to go. To restrict the access for an entire network, you need to leave one or more octets blank. For instance, if you input 123.123. and don't input anything inside the third and fourth positions, our web server shall deny requests from all IP addresses between 123.123.1.1 and 123.123.255.255.
